A 52-year-old man with HBeAg negative compensated liver cirrhosis due to chronic hepatitis B virus infection has successfully been treated with tenofovir disoproxil (TDF) (HBV-DNA not detectable, normal aminotransferases for more than 5 years). His last blood test under TDF shows HBsAg loss.

What is your recommendation?

A. Long-term TDF should be continued, regardless the HBsAg loss, because he has cirrhosis

B. TDF should be discontinued after confirmed HBsAg loss, with or without anti-HBs seroconversion

C. HCC surveillance can be stopped because he has lost HBsAg

D. A and B are both reasonable options because there is no agreement between guidelines
